Forklift Basics: Function, Fuel Types and Transmission

Forklift fuel types explained: diesel, gas, gasoline and battery power, indoor vs. outdoor use, manual vs. automatic transmission and rental rates.

Forklift for rent

Forklift rental has become increasingly common in cities lately, especially among growing companies. Its ability to move heavy loads makes this vehicle crucial, and very effective at cutting back on manual labor.

Tens of millions of rupiah in budget can be saved when this machine is used on a project, large or small. With forklift rental rates that many businesses can afford, plenty of companies, factories and home industry workshops benefit from having one.

So what exactly is a forklift, and how does it work?

A forklift is a heavy-equipment vehicle whose main part is a pair of forks that lift pallets. The forks on a forklift are usually compatible with the many types of pallets on the market.

In use, the goods to be moved are first placed on a pallet and then lifted and carried. How a forklift operates depends heavily on the fuel it uses. The energy sources are diesel, gas, gasoline and battery (recharged with electricity).

The fuel affects how the forklift works and where it is used. Forklifts that run on diesel and gas are more often operated outdoors. Forklifts that run on gasoline and battery power are used more often indoors.

This is because gasoline and batteries produce almost no pollution, so they are safe in enclosed spaces. In other words, they remain safe from a health standpoint. Diesel and gas are different. These two fuels are more prone to pollution, because the exhaust gas or smoke they give off can cause health problems such as coughing and shortness of breath.

Because they are safer, gasoline and battery forklifts are widely used to lift items such as food products, beverages, garments and other products that must stay free of pollution.

Based on how they are operated, forklift drive systems fall into two types: Manual Transmission Forklift and Automatic Transmission Forklift. Besides the transmission, forklift rental rates are usually set by the machine's capacity and lifting power.

A forklift cannot be operated by just anyone. It takes a professional, trained operator, who must also wear safety gear such as goggles, a mask, a helmet and safety shoes.
